Growing up I remember the polo neck as a frumpy, shapeless alternative to a cotton jumper but as I have grown older and wiser in my years this mysterious, francophone creature has been given a second chance in my eyes.
The magic of the skinny jean (on skinny, Swedish blogger Elin Kling) paired with the oversized, chunky warmth of this knit makes you forget the tatty, ‘only get one wear out of it’, polo from yonder years.
Yes it makes me reminiscint of cigarette in hand, thin Parisiens (yes I am jealous), but surely if it is good enough for those French women for many years then we were clearly the ones missing out on this what could be a beautiful addition to our wardrobe.
The well-fitted black polo (yes, the one we all know) can be worn various ways and is not only a luxe alternative to a boring, bulky scarf it can have you looking mature and sophisticated (something all us Irish women need a little bit more of in my opinion).
If your under thirty you can try a cropped tee version. With high-waisted trousers you’ll look the spits of Kelly Kopawski! Go on.
